Lifespan of Roofing Products

The average lifespan of each roofing product is dependant on wear and tear, yearly roof inspections, and roof maintenance. I always try to emphasize how important maintenance is for a roof. It is the key to maximizing the lifespan of your roof. A maintenance should be performed every 5 years or so.

We recently performed a roof maintenance on a HANDMADE tile roof in Pasadena, CA. The tiles were originally installed in 1917. That is a 93 year old roof! This homeowner knew the importance and value of performing maintenances and has prolonged the life of their roof.

Composition shingles are more affordable than tile and come in a variety of lifespan ranges (from 25 year to lifetime).

In my experience a typical shake/wood shingle roof can last 20-40 years with proper maintenance.

We offer free yearly inspections and can tell you if a maintenance would benefit your roof. A roof maintenance would include items such as: fixing or replacing broken/missing shingles/shakes/tiles, checking penetrations (skylights, chimney, pipes, vents, etc), and removing debris from the roof surface and rain gutters.

Got a Steep Roof?

Steep roofs can be difficult roofs to install, expecially for the unseasoned roofer. That is why it is important to have a certified and experienced roof installer doing the work. Different roofs can have many different pitches. For example you're looking here at an 18 & 12 slope. (18" fall and 12" level). You will notice that we are using ladder jacks as well as safety harnesses for this install.

2:18pm Today...

At 2:18pm today, Fall is officially here! Now if it could start cooling off to match the season, that would be great!

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts that El Nino will be coming again this 2009/2010 winter! What does that mean for myself and other roofing contractors???
It increases our call load and decreases the amount of time we can work on roofs due to the rain.

I quote that I often refer to is, "A wise man does his roof in the summer." So if your roof is not ready to withstand El Nino, or you are not SURE if it will, give us a call and we will send someone right over!
